Photograph caption dated December 21, 1931 reads, "Even a humble Beverly Hills cactus plant blazes forth vari-colored Christmas lights as more than 50 cities of Southern California observe the established custom of outdoor Yuletide observance. Thousands of living trees are kept lighted during the period from Dec. 19 to Jan. 2."
