Title
Evens Third Saw. This is a specialized form of circular saw evolved in the redwood region for handling large logs. It is really a combination of four saws; three in a vertical plane and one in a horizontal. The topmost saw and the horizontal saw function only as a means to "rabbett" out a portion from large logs board by board, so that the portion left will pass between the arbors of the two main saws. The photograph was taken prior to 1884 and was copied from "Redwood Lumbering" Cherry and Company, San Francisco
