Photograph. "123784.... watch your credit... International News Photos -- San Francisco Bureau, slug (delegation of International Labor Defense) -- Oakland, California... Protesting against the trial of five alleged Communists charged with burning the Reichstag in Berlin, a delegation terming themselves representatives of the International Labor Defense in Oakland, today had filed a formal protest with the German Consul, Hans Luther. -- The delegation, shown above, about thirty strong, headed by Joseph H. Wilson, spokesman for the group and chairman of Oakland branch of international Labor Defense. Wilson said that similar protests had been filed with German consulates all over the world when news of the visit reached Police Headquarters a squadron of officers expecting a communist demonstration, was rushed to the consulate offices. However, nothing unlawful took place and no arrests were made. -- The five men on trial charged with burning the Reichstag are Demitroff, Torgler, Taneff, Tallman and Potoff. A sixth person, a boy of nineteen, has confessed to starting the fire. His trial has been progressing for the past eight months in Germany. None of the defendents have thus far been sentenced to death. -- N.Y. ... and coast papers (C) 12-15-33" -- typed note attached to verso.
