Description
Folsom Prison’s ivy-shrouded administrative building, completed in 1881, is shown in this circa-1905 photo. Up until 1914, the warden’s residence was located on the top floor of the building. It was moved to just beyond the East Gate that same year. The second floor consisted of areas for accounting, records, a hospital, warden offices, and a staff dining hall. This is the same floor that included a steel door that led into the prison’s original cell block. It would eventually be renamed the Officers and Guards Building after the prison’s administrative personnel moved to a new building in 1930.
