Description
Photo--black and white: Downtown Sebastopol in 1895. David Strauss' Bargain House is seen at the right. The store located near today's Copperfield's, which Strauss moved to Petaluma n 1900 and opened a tailor shop with his brother-in-law. The upstairs houses the offices of the Sebastopol Times, which had many changes of location and publishers but never suspended publication nor failed to bring news of general interest to subscribers. The custom of early years was to put advertisement on the front page with important news on page three of the paper.
