Description
Kathy Kohner Zuckerman discusses the 30th anniversary reissue of her father Frederick Kohner’s book, “Gidget.” Kathy begins by explaining how her father created the character of Gidget after her when she was a teenager surfing in Malibu, California every weekend. The book focuses on surfing culture and what life was like living along the Pacific Coast Highway. Zuckerman recalls her teenage years and what it was like to date older guys. She talks about how every surfer on the beach had a nickname, and hers was Gidget a combination of the phrase ‘girl midget.’ She discusses her family’s background in television writing, producing, and directing. She ends the interview by talking about the Gidget legacy and the many incarnations of Gidget: several books, 3 feature films, 4 television movies, and a television series.
