Black and white lantern slide showing a group of Christians posing for a group photograph in the Congo. A man kneels to the front of the image. He holds an open Bible and wears a pith helmet, safari jacket and trousers, and may be a preacher. There is only one woman in the group, and only one man wears any African style clothing (he wears a wrap around his waist). Other men wear shirts and trousers or shorts, and many wear hats. Some of the group pose with bibles or tracts. This slide comes from a collection generated by missionaries working for the Congo Balolo Mission, a mission begun in 1889 under the supervision of the East London Training Institute for Home and Foreign Missions that developed into the interdenominational evangelical mission Regions Beyond Missionary Union after 1900.
