Photograph caption dated October 17, 1949 reads, "Edward A. Dickson, president of Historical Society of Southern California; Shirley Bucanan (sic), television actress, and Lloyd D. Mitchell, Southern California manager of California Centennials Commission, inspect new replicas of Sutter's Fort and Sutter's Mill used to depict early California days. Created in exact miniature and painted a symbolic gold, the replicas will be loaned to major events in the Southland such as conventions and trade fairs. Display weighs 500 pounds."
