Used in the Exhibit: Play by Play - A Century of L.A. Sports Photography, 1889-1989 In 1926, owner Bill Lane relocated his Salt Lake City Bees to L.A., where the newly-named Hollywood Stars shared Wrigley field with the Angels. Stars pitcher Frank Shellenback was one of the last legalized spit-ballers in the PCL; earlier, the Hollywood High grad had played for the Chicago "Black Sox" (so called because eight members were accused of throwing the 1919 World Series). Shellenback ended his career as the PCL's leader in career wins (295). Photo dated: October 15, 1928.
