“Landing place of Captain Cook, Erromanga (Traitors head in background).” View of a man and boy on a beach at Cook Bay on the eastern side of Erromango. Captain Cook landed on the island on the 4th August 1774, but after the islanders attempted to seize the boat the marines opened fire on them. Traitors head Peninsula lies north of the bay and consists of three volcanoes.
