Photograph of the old governors' palace in Santa Fe, New Mexico, ca.1886-1888. The Palace of the Governors was the seat of government for New Mexico from 1609 into the 20th century. A long series of square posts across the front of the building support the roof (on top of which a balustrade runs around the perimeter) over portal. A tree from the plaza is visible at left. The building later became a state historical museum.
