Edgar Allen Jones was cast as the judge on KABC-TV’s 'Traffic Court,' one of the medium’s earliest nonfiction courtroom shows. He was such a hit that he was soon elevated to network TV as the judge on the ABC shows 'Day in Court' and 'Accused.' Jones kept his day job at UCLA during the six years he presided over the televised mock courts. Photograph caption dated July 1, 1960 reads, "6:30 P.M.—Traffic court—Channel 7—Long-lived program celebrates its third anniversary with cases involving the freeways to call attention to safety on the Fourth of July weekend. 'Judge' Edgar Allen Jones Jr. presides."
