In the wake of the October 17, 1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake, Caltrans commissioned an oral history project to document the personal and professional experiences of Caltrans employees who worked to restore the State's damaged transportation system. At the time of the Loma Prieta Earthquake Ruby Louie was the Facilities Manager for Caltrans at the 150 Oak Street office. In this interview she describes her personal earthquake experience and the logistics and personnel support she provided to Caltrans employees. Louie was resourceful in providing resources to keep staff and recovery efforts going and organized work shifts to make sure that staff received breaks and rest when needed.
