Description
Seated Buddha statue of crystalline limestone. It is of the (Indian) Post-Gupta period and may be from the 9th or 10th c. CE. The right hand is held in the vitarka mudra, the left hand in katakahasta or possibly āhvana mudra. Snail-shell curls are arranged in horizontal layers and also cover the ushnisha. It is likely that it was a product of the Abhayagiri school. The monastery complex is of the Pabbatarāma vihāra type. Height: 2.07 meters.
