Honorees included contralto Marian Anderson, White House seamstress and housemaid Lillian Rogers Parks, civil rights activist Rosa Parks, education reformer Marnesba Tackett, singer Sarah Vaughan, <i>Los Angeles Sentinal</i> publisher Ruth Washington, and Los Angeles leader Vassie Wright.
