Photograph article dated January 12, 1950 partially reads, "Rhyolite, historic ghost town near Death Valley, is dead, but it lives today in the memory of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Moffat, who watched it grow and die. The Moffats, who now live in retirement at 10868 Bloomfield Ave., North Hollywood, met at a box social in Rhyolite in 1906 and were married there. They remember Rhyolite as a bustling gold town before the advent of the two railroads that took gold ore to the smelters. Prized possession of the Moffats is an album. It contains pictures of Rhyolite showing the first tents raised before substantial housing or business buildings of any kind were constructed." Photograph caption reads, "When Rhyolite lived - Mrs. J. A. Moffatt of North Hollywood has this picture of school children in present-day 'Ghost Town' when she taught.
