Description
The Open Bible for China" Soldiers of General Feng's Army holding open the Testaments they have just received, at II Timothy 2:15". General Feng Yuxiang, who entered the Chinese army in 1900, had converted to Christianity in 1911 after witnessing the Paotingfu massacre and later receiving care from a medical missionary. He encouraged missionaries, particularly Jonathan Goforth, to preach to and baptise his troops, known as "Ironsides". A film of the General's work was made in 1923, reviewed in the LMS Chronicle, October 1923, which stated that General Feng's army were "mopping up the physical, social, military, political and moral filth of China.
