Photograph caption dated August 30, 1956 reads "Lovely Elaine Burnham (left) of Van Nuys, above, is reigning--single handed--over current Valley Fair which opened today at Devonshire Downs in Northridge. She was scheduled to be one of 'fair pair' queens, but her partner, Joan Chandler, is 'reigning ' from her home, a victim of appendicitis attack."
