Shades of L.A. Donor 0015 are Iraqi-American siblings. One is an award-winning journalist and editor whose articles have been featured in major periodicals, while the other is a producer, writer and director primarily of cable network documentaries. Their father arrived in Los Angeles from Iraq in the early 1950s to study at USC as part of the Fulbright Scholar Program. He lived in the Echo Park neighborhood of Los Angeles in the mid-1950s, and while at USC was a member of the Arab Students Association. In 1956 he earned his Master of Accounting degree from USC. Their mother was born in Los Angeles of French-Canadian descent and lived in the South Central neighborhood near Vermont Avenue and West 43rd St. They were married in 1956, and moved to Baton Rouge Louisiana in 1957 where the father pursued a Master of Arts degree at Louisiana State University. In 1959, they returned to Southern California and settled in Panorama City. Around 1963-64 the family moved to Encino, and in 1979 they moved to the Canoga Park area which remained their family home. The father passed away from cancer in September 1988.
