Description
This 1996 postcard shows an exhibit of Central Pacific Railroad engine number 1, the Governor Stanford, as it makes its way through the Sierra Nevada Mountains. The 4-4-0 locomotive entered into service in 1863 and was a vital tool in constructing the transcontinental railroad. The exhibit can be see at the California State Railroad Museum, located at 111 I Street.
