Title supplied by cataloger. Designed by architectural firm Pereira & Luckman with elements to maximize visual merchandising, this $3,000,000 shopping center opened in 1955. After just three decades of use, Whittier Downs Shopping Center was razed due to declining popularity. Some of the retailers include: J. C. Penney, Thrifty Drug Co. (lower right corner of shopping center), F.W. Woolworth Co. (lower left corner of shopping center), and a Food Giant supermarket. The shopping center in the upper right includes a King Cole Market, designed by A. Quincy Jones. The homes surrounding the center are located in the community of West Whittier.
