Description
Paul Jorgen Gothesen was born in Kragero, Norway on November 17, 1886 and came to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1909. He worked as deckhand on the Southern Pacific ferries from 1912 to 1920, when he was promoted to second officer and rose to the rank of first officer six years later. In 1929 Gothesen transferred to the new Southern Pacific Golden Gate Ferries, Ltd., where he worked until the company went out of business in 1940. He subsequently became a captain of the Richmond-San Rafael Ferry, where he worked from 1949 to 1956. Gothesen passed away in Oakland on December 9, 1956.
