Inauguration of the Memorial dedicated to the arrival of the Gospel in Maré, Pentecost 1967 Native pastors in front of the monument to the first evangelists who arrrived in Maré, Tataio and Taniela. Comment : This monument commemorates the arrival of the first missionaries Tataio and Taniela on Maré island in 1841. These missionaries were native of Samoas, trained by the London Missionary Society. They disembarked on the beach of Rô in the northwest of the island, at the foot of a high cliff of coral.
