Description
Mark Lee discusses his book, “The Canal House.” Lee begins by discussing the plot of novel, which follows the character Daniel McFarland. McFarland lives the dangerous and unpredictable life of a war correspondent in Uganda. McFarland later falls in love with Julia Cadell and the two flee to a canal house in London in an attempt to hide from their perilous lives. Eventually the lovers emerge from their seclusion and travel to the war zone in East Timor. Lee goes on to explain how much of the book is based on his own experiences as a foreign correspondent. He also discusses the questions of morality that reporters are faced with while working in areas of conflict.
