Description
Photograph of a birdseye view of east Los Angeles taken from north of Bishop Street, showing the Downey Avenue bridge, ca.1873. An elevation of ground fills a large portion of the left foreground, with the widely-dispersed houses of early east L.A. below. The continuous truss Downey Avenue bridge is visible at center, with a line comprised of a house and four shed-like buildings to its right. Further in the foreground at right, a house is visible just beyond the elevation, with a sowed field extending out next to it. In the distance to the left, the houses are spaced more closely together, although still diffuse. Mountains are visible on the horizon.
