“3 of our senior students who went for nursing training to K.G. VI. hosp. Nrb.” Group portrait of three indigenous women who have trained as nurses at a hospital in Nairobi. Originally the Native Civil Hospital it was renamed the King George VI Hospital in 1952 and following independence named the Kenyatta National Hospital after Jomo Kenyatta. Opened in 1901 it is the oldest hospital in Kenya. ❧ The image is from the collection of Dr Archibald Clive Irvine (1893-1974) showing the period from 1947-1961 at the Chogoria mission which was established near Mt Kenya, in 1922, and run by Dr Irvine.
