Portrait of M.P. (Meredith "Pink") Snyder, Mayor of Los Angeles from 1896-1898, 1900-1904, and 1919-1921. During this period, Snyder was active in the movement to provide Los Angeles with a harbor at San Pedro and acquiring the shoestring strip that connected the two. The 3rd Street Tunnel was bored in 1901. There were 10,000 telephones in the city in 1901.
