Description
Photograph of an exterior view of Matthews' Mill at San Bernardino, 1935. The mill, built by E.F. Matthews in 1872 and later known as Fredericks Mill, is pictured at center behind a portion of picket fence. A large, split-level wooden building with wooden siding, its water wheel is nearly equal to the height of the two-story smaller portion of the structure. Taller sections are visible back and to the left, and reach heights of what seems to be four stories. Trampled foliage can be seen along the dirt road in the foreground, where other plants hang in from outside the frame. The building was located east of what would later become the courhouse.
