Five famous film stars are pictured at a conference with producers under the auspices of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on July 19, 1927, to discuss ways and means of lowering production costs, establishing greater harmony between the industry's branches, and raise standards of the movies. Front row, left to right, Ramon Novarro, Louise Dresser and Conrad Nagel. Nagel, who is chairman of the actors' branch of the academy, spoke for the stars at the meeting. At the rear are Hallam Cooley, left, and Lew Cody.
