The first of a series of weekly picnics given by the U.S.O. and sponsored by the A.W.V.S. was held at the Uplifters' Club in June 1942 for 300 soldiers from camps and bivouacs near Los Angeles. Milton Berle, second from the left, acted as master of ceremonies, while Dale Butts played the piano and Dale Evans, screen and radio starlet, sang some of her original songs. Here she is singing "Will you Marry me, Mr. Larribee," to Private Bernard O'Grady.
