Description
In the wake of the October 17, 1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake, Caltrans commissioned an oral history project to document the personal and professional experiences of Caltrans employees who worked to restore the State's damaged transportation system. This oral history recording is the personal recollection of Frank Flores, who was a Caltrans Equipment Operator at the Santa Maria Yard at the time of the Loma Prieta earthquake. After the earthquake his crew spent four days doing repair work on Hector Pass on Route 152 near Gilroy. Flores recalls what it was like to work in an unfamiliar area and some of the challenges they faced while fixing the road.
