Photograph caption dated January 8, 1980 reads, "Los Angeles County lifeguards work to free commercial fishing boat "Patriot" after it ran aground off Santa Monica Beach about 7:30 a.m. today. Lifeguard Capt. Rex Odell said owner George Waldon, 32, and deckhand Steve Shuster, 32, were coming in from a morning of cod fishing when they beached their craft. Neither was injured. Attempts by lifeguard rescue boats to dislodge the vessel were unsuccessful. A was to tugboat move the boat."
