Description
Caption from July 9, 1964 Sacramento Bee reads "NEW FIRE AID - A World War II B17 bomber, converted into an air tanker, takes on a load of fire retarding chemicals at the new mixing plant on the Redding Airport in Shasta County. The plant, background, is a joint venture of the United States Forsest Service and California Division of Forestry and is designed to save money and increase the efficiency of the air tankers stationed at the airport."
