Title supplied by cataloger. Photograph article dated February 4, 1955 reads, "Singing with a cigar in his mouth is sort of a trade mark for J. L. 'Singing Jimmie' Smith, veteran composer-musician who is credited with having submitted the first complete entry - lyrics and original melody - in the Parky Theme Song Contest. Smith, who resides at 7825 Kyle St., Sunland, and the late George M. Cohan were born on the same day - July 4, 1878 - and Smith has composed approximately 800 songs, the most recent, of course, being his ditty about the cartoon kangaroo and his slogan, 'Help Keep Your Parks, Roadsides, and Beaches Clean.' He is an old-time vaudeville entertainer and first performed on the stage at the age of 12."
