Photograph (engineering notebook photoprint) looking south from foot of 27th Avenue, Los Angeles County. Note narrow beach and narrow board walk (Ocean Front Walk). This followed a 6.2 tide on 9 January 1940 accompanied by heavy ground swells and 30 foot breakers which did considerable damage to piers and ocean front property between Newport Beach and Malibu along the route of the proposed "Ocean Front Walk" location of State Route 163 between Santa Monica and Redondo. Also visible are: wooden guard rail, a few houses, oil derricks, a dog, people and birds on beach, ocean, part of the coast visible across the water. No legible signs.
