Description
Artwork of proposed neon lighting design on building for You Chung Hong, Chinatown, Los Angeles. Airbrush and colored pencil and gouache on black paper attached to board.
This is one in a group of drawings and other artwork made for the rebuilding of Los Angeles’ New Chinatown (1936-40s). In the mid-1930s, all of Old Chinatown was torn down to make way for Union Station. Many of the displaced families and businesses went to the nearby 900 block of North Broadway and developed New Chinatown.
