The area above the moonstone has several sculptured figures in stone. Frontal view of an often-encountered lion figure in relief at a corner of the short boundary wall at the landing area of the flight of steps of the entrance to the Pañcakāvāsa monastic residential complex, earlier called "Mahasen's Pavilion." The exquisitely executed lion figure is one of two on opposite sides at the top of the flight of steps. A sculptured fully-open lotus-blossom embellishment is above the figure of the lion.
