Description
This Chevrolet assembly plant opened in 1947 and produced the Chevrolet Corvair, Chevrolet Nova, Chevrolet Camaro, Chevrolet full-size models and the Pontiac Firebird. The plant was closed in 1992 after the production of Camaro and Firebird vehicles was moved to Sainte-The´re`se Assembly in Quebec. In 1998, the facility was razed and replaced with a large retail and industrial complex, known as The Plant. GM continues to operate a car-testing facility nearby.
Photograph caption dated December 15, 1959 reads, "Work Resumes at GM Plant - First cars roll off assembly line at General Motors Chevrolet plant in Van Nuys as production resumed today after 44-day shutdown caused by steel strike shortage."
