Description
A man (wearing Green HMong clothing, holding an umbrella) sings during the pov pob ball tossing game while attending a New Year celebration in Hagen Park (Rancho Cordova, California). Two Green HMong women (holding umbrellas) are visible from behind. Several other people (some holding umbrellas) are seen in the background. Typed label affixed to the mat board above the photograph reads, "New Year, 1983, Cordova Park. Blue HMong girls, White HMong boy, throwing the cloth ball and singing courtship songs." Original reference to the historical use of "Blue HMong" has been updated to reflect the more accurate Green HMong sub-group. White HMong reference in original label is misidentified. Notes on verso read: "HMO: [handwritten black ink, upper left verso]; HMong New Year, Hagan Park, Rancho, Lewis Judy, *HMO.3496.00* Summer 2006 [printed label, upper left verso]" Original title from SEACRC: HMong New Year, Hagen Park, Rancho Cordova, 1983, pov pob (Lewsi[sic])
