Description
Photo of Capt. Daryl Gates, promoted to Inspector of police by Chief of Police William H. Parker. For the past two years, Gates was head of the Los Angeles Police Dept. Intelligence Division. Gates is one of the youngest men ever to make the rank of inspector and is rumored to be Parker's choice to succeed himself when and if he retires. Gates joined the force in September, 1949, became a sergeant in November, 1955, a lieutenant in November, 1959, and a captain in February, 1963. The new high-ranking officer passed No. 1 on the civil service examination, as he has done on every promotional examination he has taken. Photo dated: June 2, 1965.
