Description
Photo caption printed in the Sacramento Bee on April 17, 1969 states: "About an additional inch per day of this palm tree comes above water as efforts to reclaim flooded Sherman Island are made. Some parts of the rich agricultural oil and gas-producing island are under 20 feet of water from the Sacramento River which rushed in when a levee broke in January. The island is connected to Antioch, Contra Costa County, by the bridge seen in the background which now leads only to water."
