Mary Pickford was a Canadian-born silent film actress, famously known as "America's sweetheart," co-founder of American Artists film studio, and one of the original founders of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
Photograph caption dated May 6, 1961 reads "This landscape by the late Charlotte Pickford, mother of actress Mary Pickford. Admiring it are (from left) Mmes. Agnes Richmond, Bart Lytton, Florence Thalheimer and Miss Pickford, who is donating the work to the newly formed American Institute of Fine Arts, which in turn will sell it at a luncheon Sunday in the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Proceeds will go the AIFA biulding [sic] fund."
