Description
Mural painting depicting navigation, by Hugo Ballin. Navigation is symbolized by two figures. On the left, the Wind, represented by an old man holding a mariner's sun clock and compass. The figure on the right symbolic of Becalm is holding a sextant. Circumscribed about these figures is the course of the moon. Above in the center is an astrolabe, an instrument formerly used for taking altitudes. Below in the background a ship is sailing out of a tropical strom into the Arctic.
