8 images. Fall from Roller Coaster in Long Beach Pike Amusement Zone, 23 March 1956. Mickey McGuire -- 19 years (died from fall) James McGuire -- 20 years (brother). Caption slip reads: "Photographer: Emery. Date: 1956-03-23. Reporter: Emery to Cowles. Assignment: Rider falls from roller coaster (Cyclone Racer), Long Beach Pike amusement zone. 42/43: Mickey McGuire, 19, of 1925 W. 253rd Pl., Lomita, lying critically hurt on sand beach under roller coaster pier after fall from speeding coaster at bottom of dip. Fireman had to cut way through steel wire barrier to reach him. 48: His brother James, 20, 1735 W. 257 St. Lomita picks way through timber jungle shouting "My brother! He's my brother! Is he dead?" (facing camera). Man at left, waving, trying to head him off from seeing smashed brother. 49: James McGuire peering down through timbers recognizes brother as amb. men work on him. City firemen & police carry stretcher out. 60/61: Fun zone crowd jams around ambulance carrying injured man".
