Two men lead a team of oxen, pulling a carreta full of women wearing old Western costume, to Los Angeles City Hall to celebrate the centennial of the first raising of the American flag in Los Angeles; the women are identified as: Blanche Taylor, Marilyn Simmons, Maria Cain, and MaryAnn Baird. The oxen and carreta traveled for three days from San Pedro, following the route that Commodore Robert F. Stockton took. Twenty-five thousand people attended the event held on the steps of Los Angeles City Hall. Photograph dated August 13, 1946.
