Description
This 1975 photograph captures a sculpture and fountain in front of the Wells Fargo Building at Fifth Street and Capitol Avenue. Created by Nevada City artist Norman Grag, the unnamed work is composed of copper. Three rods, the longest over ten feet tall, support curled geometric pieces of copper, through which water drains into a receiving bowl. The advent of public art was a key element in Mayor Phil Isenberg’s effort to beautify the entry points into Sacramento, which was also still in the process of redeveloping its downtown core. Grag passed away in 2008.
