"Cow testing associations are starting up. Those testing have the highest production. M.B. reports in his annual 1922 report that 'grading up the herds and educating the diarymen to better methods is slow.' Only two herds had cows producing over 500 pounds of butterfat in the year. Some diarymen are taking their own samples and then calling the tester. The rate will be $1.50 per cow for a minimum of 40 cows." M.B.Boissevain "By 1925, a cow testing improvement association was in operation. An ordinance prohibiting dairymen, milk producers or distributors for bringing milk into Marin County for human consumption without pasteurization in Marin was passed by Marin Board of Supervisors. It was feared that the milk wrs around the bay would cause dealers to unload their surplus in Marin with disastrous consequnces for Marin consumers and producers." Editor, M.B.
