Photograph of a road through the soda beds in Death Valley called "The Devil's Golf Course", California, ca.1900-1950. Three early automobiles stand facing the right with travelers standing and sitting to the side of them. They are surrounded by the craggy ground of the soda beds which obscure their feet. On the leftmost car, one of the travelers sits on the running board while the three others stand. Picture file card reads: "When it rains the ground seethes and bubbles."
