Important in San Diego's jump to boom town is the $34,000,000 being spent by the Army and Navy for camps and housing projects around the city. Fifteen miles north of the town is Camp Callan, the Coast Artillery replacement center which stretches along the sea for three miles at Torrey Pines mesa. This photo in February 1941 shows some of the new barracks where many Los Angeles draftees will live for three months during their training.
