Description
Photograph caption dated December 28, 1985 reads, "Humiva Haroon and her husband join 150 other Islamic students who marched from Pershing Square to L.A. City Hall yesterday to mark the sixth anniversary of the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. The demonstrators carried placards that read "Death to the Soviet Puppets" to protest the ongoing war in Afghanistan. One protester said the war has "caused the death of 1 million people," and another 4 million have been driven into exhile. The Haroons were forced to flee to Pakistan five years ago and arrived in the U.S. last month."
